Austin with Kids

Day 1 – set up in our campground – Austin Lonestar Rv Resort. We ventured out to dinner at Kerbey Lane Cafe and went to bed early. Day 2 –  After morning school we left for our first adventure: Voodoo Donuts!   We have been to every store, Portland, the shop in Denver, Universal City Walk, and now Austin! Obviously we recommend …

Tampa Bay Area with Kids

What I do in the Tampa Bay Area with Kids
(via our RV adventures, this is my hometown area)
We choose to park at the St. Pete/Madeira Beach KOA– it was a nice natural setting on the Pinellas Bike Trail. You can rent kayaks and other equipment there, play a little putt-putt golf or enjoy the heated pool. If you back up to the water you can fish from your spot – though there are oyster shells that cut our lines.
  • Busch Gardens – Pure fun for all ages! We love the climbing area near the Tigers.  Tip: You can pack snacks or a lunch and bring water bottles.
  • The Florida Aquarium – play with the stingrays, ogled all the fish! In warm months there is a great outdoor play area with splash pad. *Recommend to bring an extra shirt for the kids.

  • Eat at Frenchy’s. There are multiple on Clearwater Beach. I like Rockaway Grill, the boys dig and play in the sand while waiting for our table and food.
  • Play at the white sandy beaches: Treasure Island Beach, Clearwater Beach, St Pete Beach – it doesn’t matter, all the beaches near here are great.  Best beach for the dogs though – Fort DeSoto or Honeymoon Island.
  • To really wow the kids we went to Rum Fish Grill in St Pete Beach, and sat next to the giant fish tank!!Salt Rock Grill for dinner (or lunch) is a good spot too, you can come by boat or by car. It is in Indian Shores.
  • The Treasure Island Kite Festival – held annually in January is a fun beach event. The kids loved the bounce houses and watching kite acrobats.  They don’t have an official website I can like for info, but they do have a FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/biggestbeachkite/
Other Activities around town:
St. Petersburg
Go to the Sundial and grab a lunch or picnic lunch from the Locale Market
Paciugo has the best gelato outside of Florence, Italy.
Walk Beach Dr and Bayshore Blvd.
Eat at 400 Beach or Bella Brava. Both have good food and lots of outdoor space to people watch.
Catch a Tampa Bay Rays game at Tropicana Field
The Tampa Bay Rowdies – see our local soccer team play and have water views at Al Lang Stadium. Always a fun time! Hopefully they’ll be joining the MLS soon?
Tampa
Hockey games at Amelie Arena and hang out in the Channelside Dr area. There is a bike path along the water there too. You can paddle board on the river, looks fun.
People watch, shop and eat in Old Hyde Park.
The Glazer Children’s Museum is a great spot for a few hours of child entertainment! Not an all day adventure, but definitely worth the cost of admission.
Eat at Ulele or Datz or both..Definitely both.
Breakfast at Daily Eats.
Nearby
MLB has a lot of teams nearby for Spring Training. Phillies: Yankees, Orioles, etc.
Clearwater – go out on the pirate boat or do a dolphin watch cruise.
Go to Johns Pass – shop, eat if in/near Madeira Beach
See Manatees at Apollo Beach Power plant or Homassassa Springs State Park
See alligators at Sawgrass Lake Park.
Go out on a boat!!

The Florida Keys To Do’s with Kids

The Keys: What we did with our kids while visiting. (In no particular order) Stay at Fiesta Key RV Resort! The sites that back up to the water are really nice. The location is central to The Keys in general. We fished off the wall behind our camper daily, saw resident iguanas in the tree across the canal, and found many …

St Augustine with Kids

St Augustine 1565 – The Spanish landed. Apparently there is a “Fountain of Youth” here. I didn’t go see it this trip. I went 11 years ago and I have continued to age. Oh well.  The KOA was nice, I did not use a single facility so I cannot speak to that. The store seemed well stocked and there were …

Space Coast with kids

Space Coast: Things To Do   Enjoy the beach and the waves. Really you can do this anywhere there is beach access parking. We would drive right across the street from Patrick Air Force Base and walk down the little boardwalk. Voila – the beach. The boys lost lots of toys in this ocean – bring your shovels, buckets, and …

Birthday Adventure

I am still dreaming of the Nutella Milkshake I had at the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium. Man, I should have gone back for another one  🙄.  Too late. And we devoured it so fast there is no picture. The last week was a different one for us. Oliver worked ahead in school so we could take a stay-cation and go to …
